What happened
- 1A donated tidal marshland parcel at 561 Center Street was accepted unanimously for permanent open space.
- 2The Program Year 52 Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan was approved in the amount of $480,000 by unanimous voice vote.
- 3An appropriation of $68,636 for a Madvac litter vacuum, fully funded from the NIP Fund, was approved unanimously.

- 4Jill Vergara was appointed unanimously to the South Central Regional Water Authority Representative Policy Board.
- 5The Neighborhood Assistance Act program resolution, designating a Municipal Liaison, was approved by unanimous voice vote.
Why it matters
The acceptance of the 561 Center Street tidal marshland permanently protects coastal habitat as public open space at no cost to taxpayers. The $480,000 CDBG plan directs federal community development funds — including $447,289 in entitlement grants and $32,711 in program income — toward Fairfield residents for the grant year running October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027. The new Madvac litter vacuum will support cleaner sidewalks, fields, and lots using existing NIP Fund dollars.
What's next
- A special meeting will be held in July for the Traffic Authority and Police to report on traffic cameras.

What happened
- 1Superintendent Michael Testani's contract for July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029 was approved 6-3, with three members voting against.
- 2Class size Policy 6151 was debated at length with two proposed amendments, but no vote was taken; the chair indicated the policy will appear on the June 23 regular meeting agenda.
- 3One proposed class size amendment was estimated to add approximately 10 sections at a cost of $1M, while a second proposed amendment would add 16 sections.
Show 2 more details ↓Hide details ↑
- 4Dozens of residents raised concerns about class sizes at two public comment sessions, with most speakers advocating for smaller classes.
- 5Employment of Board members' children as unpaid interns or summer paraprofessionals for 2026-2027 was approved 7-0-2, with two abstentions.
Why it matters
The split 6-3 vote to renew the Superintendent's contract signals division on the Board over district leadership heading into a new three-year term. The unresolved class size debate — drawing large public turnout and two competing amendment proposals — means families will not know the outcome until at least the June 23 meeting. The proposed amendments could require a significant budget investment if adopted.
What's next
- Policy 6151 class size is scheduled for the June 23 regular meeting agenda, where a vote is expected; the chair also requested any additional amendments be submitted before Thursday.

What happened
- 1A proposed Conservation & Parking Management Districts regulation failed 4 to 3, with four commissioners opposing adoption of the new parking standards.
- 2Two Fairfield University special exception applications — Innovation Hall and a food truck plaza at 1073 North Benson Road — were unanimously recommended to public hearing.
- 3A Beach District zoning regulation clarifying allowed coastal property delineations was approved 6 to 1, with one commissioner opposed.

- 4Fairfield Public Schools' special permit to convert Warde High School sports fields to turf athletic fields was unanimously approved.
- 5A pre-application review for a proposed Transit Oriented Development Park mixed-use project at 160 & 219 Ash Creek Boulevard was presented and received commission feedback.
Why it matters
The defeat of the parking district regulation means proposed minimum parking standards for smaller residential developments in designated areas of Fairfield will not take effect, leaving those rules unresolved. The advancement of Fairfield University's Innovation Hall and food truck plaza to public hearing opens a formal comment period for neighbors in the R-3 residential zone. The Warde High School turf field approval clears the way for that athletic facility upgrade to proceed. ⚠️ These are draft minutes and have not been officially approved. Content may change.
